Lake + Desolation Wilderness
(K Records)

lake

Lake - Behave

Lake - Helicopter

Lake - Moving road

I can’t think of a better band to help usher in the end of fall than Lake. The name, as the music also suggests, feels like a body of water; a walk in the woods or crisp fall breeze blowing all around you. There’s a faint reminder of the dissolving summer season, while a cozy winter feeling is on the horizon. Lake’s music takes all of the K records folk-pop sound it’s listeners have come to love, but pushes it in a more lush and almost orchestral direction. Sweet soft melodies sweep over warm layered vocals to keep the listener intertwined while wonderfully unpredictable hooks round out their compositions. Lake provides the perfect soundtrack to the fall season and promises to keep their listeners warm throughout winter.

Desolation Wilderness - Paris to New York

Lake and Desolation Wilderness are both traveling from the home of K Records — Olympia, Washington. Desolation Wilderness is informal, airy, echo-laden stuff; it smacks of dry west coast air, solar flares, oversized cardigan sweaters and lowercase poetry. The paints in this palette are vibraphone, tape delay, glockenspiel, synthesizer and electric guitar. The band just released their first album White Strobing, and it’s one of the best debuts I’ve heard this year.
